Nike has long been combining art and science into their brand. When they partnered with Dark Horse Comics, they had an idea of furthering this visual tie by executing in-store signage using their illustrators. Nike brought us in to direct and execute the signage on a seasonal basis.
In order to direct Dark Horse’s illustrators, we conducted a photoshoot using models wearing the apparel. By identifying the key features and benefits of the product, we were able to position the models in a natural pose that highlighted these. Photo direction with mark-ups and notes were sent along to the illustrators to guide them.
We partnered with a freelancer to create 2 sketch fonts. A headline font that utilized Nike’s own Futura font in sketch form. The second was a hand-written font that could be use for secondary type like product names or headlines and benefit copy.
As an avid comic book reader, this was a dream project with outstanding results.
